The Short Answer
Who Is Paul Carroll?
Paul Carroll is the founder and coach behind Boxing Trainer London.
He is a former British University Heavyweight Boxing Champion, former Great Britain international decathlete, BSc (Hons) Sport Science graduate, Advanced Personal Trainer and experienced fitness-industry assessor. His coaching combines first-hand competitive experience with more than 25 years spent helping real people learn, improve and build confidence.
I have coached complete beginners, experienced exercisers, children, older adults, white-collar competitors, senior professionals and public figures. The person may change, but the responsibility does not: listen properly, prepare the session and explain things in a way that makes sense.
I do not see boxing as a performance reserved for naturally confident people. It is a skill that can be taught patiently and progressively. A good first session should make somebody feel more capable than when they arrived—not judged for what they cannot yet do.
My Sporting Story
From Great Britain Decathlete to Heavyweight Champion
My sporting education started in athletics. The decathlon demands competence across ten different events, so it teaches more than fitness. I had to understand speed, power, endurance, mobility, coordination, technical practice, recovery and how to perform under pressure. In 1995, I represented Great Britain as a junior athlete.
Boxing gave those qualities a different purpose. I became British University Heavyweight Boxing Champion in 1998. Inside the ring, strength and conditioning matter, but so do timing, balance, judgement, composure and the ability to keep learning when tired.
Those experiences, combined with my Sport Science degree and professional fitness qualifications, became the foundation of my coaching. I have continued refining that approach through thousands of individual sessions: keep the method technically sound, but never forget that every person learns differently.

How I Coach
Good Coaching Should Build Skill, Fitness & Confidence
A session is not successful simply because it was exhausting. You should understand what you are doing, feel progress in your movement and leave knowing the work was prepared for you.
Teach, Don't Just Tire
Stance, balance, footwork, punching mechanics and defence are explained clearly so your ability develops alongside your fitness.
Adapt to the Individual
Intensity, technical detail, exercise choice and pace change according to your experience, confidence, capability and objective.
Challenge Without Intimidation
You will be encouraged and properly challenged, but never embarrassed, rushed or compared with somebody else.
More than boxing: when it supports the client's goal, I also bring in strength, conditioning, mobility and core work. The method should serve the person—not force the person into a fixed template.
Experience You Can Check
Qualifications & Coaching Experience
Credentials matter most when they improve the standard of the session. This is what each part of my background adds to the way I coach.

People, Not Categories
Who I Work Especially Well With
My clients do not all look, move or think the same way. What they usually value is a coach who listens, explains clearly and can adapt without lowering the standard.
Beginners & Returning Clients
People who want patient technical instruction, a clear starting point and progress without the pressure of already knowing the basics.
Women & Busy Professionals
A large proportion of my clients are women and professionals who value privacy, purposeful training and an approach built around real life.
Young & Neurodivergent People
Age-appropriate experience with children, teenagers and autistic or ADHD clients, including mentoring work with large London charities.
Performance & Private Clients
Technical, discreet coaching for white-collar competitors, athletes, business leaders, performers and public figures.
The standard does not change with the client's profile. A recognised name and a nervous beginner both deserve preparation, attention, discretion and clear instruction.
Independent Evidence
