Your training

What happens in your boxing session?

The first session starts with a conversation about your experience, fitness and what you want from training. You might want to learn the basics, feel more confident exercising, improve your stamina or sharpen your technique. We use that starting point to choose the pace and exercises.

01

Warm up and move

mobility and gentle movement to prepare for the session.

02

Build the basics

stance, guard, balance and footwork before adding punches and combinations.

03

Practise on the pads

coached rounds with feedback on timing, accuracy and defence. Beginners work through manageable combinations.

04

Develop fitness

conditioning, strength and core exercises selected for your goals and current ability.

05

Review and recover

a cool-down and a clear idea of what to practise and progress next time.

As you improve, we can progress the combinations, movement and work rate. The aim is to develop a skill while building a training habit you can sustain.

Start at your level

New to boxing, or returning after a break?

You do not need to get fit before you start. Private coaching gives us time to explain a movement, repeat it and adjust the pace without trying to keep up with a class. You can train entirely through non-contact exercises.

If you have boxed before, we can spend more time on technique, defensive movement and conditioning. For white-collar boxing goals, tell me about your event and experience so we can discuss appropriate preparation.

Read the beginner’s boxing guide or explore white-collar boxing preparation.

Choose your training

Looking for boxing classes in Blackheath?

If you are comparing local classes with private lessons, the main difference is the amount of individual coaching and the way sessions are arranged. My Blackheath service is booked directly with me, either one-to-one or as a shared session with a friend or partner.

Where can we train?

Tell me your postcode and whether you prefer outdoor or at-home training. If you are meeting me near Blackheath Village or travelling via Blackheath station, mention that when you enquire so we can agree a practical meeting point.

On the Heath

outdoor padwork, footwork and conditioning in a suitable space, with the exact location and any requirements confirmed in advance.

At your home or garden

convenient private coaching without a separate journey to a gym. We check that the space is suitable for movement and equipment.

In a private or residents’ gym

I also welcome enquiries from nearby Greenwich and Lewisham. Send your location to check travel and availability; the session is arranged directly with me rather than through a drop-in class timetable.

Your questions

Blackheath boxing training FAQs

Can a complete beginner book boxing training in Blackheath?

Yes. You can start without any boxing experience. We begin with your stance, guard, movement and basic punches, then build combinations and fitness at a pace that suits you.

Where do the Blackheath sessions take place?

Sessions can be arranged on the Heath, at your home or garden in SE3, or in another suitable private space. We agree the exact meeting point, access and any venue requirements before booking.

How much is private boxing training in Blackheath?

Standard private sessions cost £75–£95 per session, depending on the package. Pay as you go is £95; the £75 rate applies to a block of 20 sessions. See the training packages page for the current options and terms.

How long does a session last?

A standard private session normally lasts 60 minutes. The balance of technique, padwork, fitness and recovery is adapted to your goals and starting point.

Do I have to spar or get hit?

No. You can learn boxing and improve your fitness through non-contact padwork, footwork and conditioning. Sparring is not required for these private fitness sessions.

Do I need to buy boxing gloves first?

No. I bring pads, gloves and the equipment needed for the session. Wear comfortable exercise clothing and trainers, and bring water. If you already have gloves, you are welcome to bring them.

Can I train with a friend or partner?

Yes. Shared coaching for two people costs £110 in total per session, or £55 each. Tell me both participants’ experience and goals when enquiring so we can plan a suitable session.

Can I train at home instead of outdoors?

Yes, provided there is enough suitable space to move and train. Send your postcode and a brief description of the space. For a residents’ or private gym, access and permission need to be agreed first.

When are sessions available?

Weekday daytime sessions are available, with other times depending on the current diary. Send your preferred days and times when enquiring. Sunday sessions are not available.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We discuss the forecast and suitable options before an outdoor session. An indoor alternative depends on access to an agreed space; contact me to confirm arrangements rather than assuming a session is cancelled.
